Creative Collaboration
Examples of creative collaboration
- Iris Van Herpen HYPNOSIS
In 2019 the designer Iris Van Herpen did a major collaboration with artist Phillip Beasley and Anthony Howe. The 3 major artists within their fields came together for the Paris fashion week summer show, featuring a huge kinetic instalment that was in constant rotation. With Philip Beasley being a mastermind of 3D sculpturing and Anthony Howe's incredible knowledge of kinetic sculpture and micro motoring - Iris was able to create a whole experience within a show. She is famous for only doing 2 collections of around 20-30 garments a year (in comparison to the 4 collections of 50+ standard of couture) which allows her to invest time and effort into each collection, where we see the infinite details of each piece; for this particular collection them details extended in multiple areas of creative production - Philip was creating the actual pieces to the instalment and the garments, the mind of Anthony Howe to create the perfect motorisers and kinetic structures and Iris herself to steer and present the final aesthetic and product. The amalgamation is a staple for Iris Van Herpen, but this particular collaboration was profound.
- Jeffree Star cosmetics x Shane Dawson
In 2019 make up icon and business owner Jeffree Star announced a collaboration with the YouTube star Shane Dawson. The duo are not a typical match; Jeffrees demographic but an openly gay, non-binary person famed for flashing their self made millions and Shane's demographic being more quiet gamer, a little nerdy and making conspiracy videos. But after an in depth documentary done by Shane featuring Jeffree called 'the secret life of Jeffrey star' that when viral - the pair decided to a 6 part docuseries on Netflix showing the ins and outs of Jeffree's life and how he came from nothing to being so successful - which ended in them showing the process of how a makeup line is made from start to finish using their own collaboration as an example. So the whole process was documented making this collaboration hugely beneficial for both people (Jeffree making money on makeup and attracting more youtubers, Shane increases youtube following and branches into a different avenue). The fact shane brought such knowledge of youtube, videography and documentation with Jeffrees fascinating life story and hugely popular make up line - they both massively benefited from it at the time.
- SHOW Studio - INFAMY
Photography and artistic director Nick Knight brings in some of the most influential alternative artists on instagram for a 3 day photo series featuring their work. A collaboration reliant on community building and the underground makeup influencers being presented in a professional format. The collaboration with various people including IsSheHungry, Salvijia, Fecal Matter and Teratology - all of which present themselves using makeup and fashion in a very particular way. But what they all share in common is what makes the collaboration so special, a celebration of their own identity through the art of makeup. And nick knight takes his part as photographer along with his team of directors and assistance who applied their ideas. Despite the platform of discovery being instagram, these artists are serious creators and providing them with an alternate source of marketing opens their avenues, Nick Knight gains an already established role within his field but a diverse portfolio of current and on trend people.
